Get outside and explore

The outdoors is such an amazing place for fitness! Our family recently went and did a little hiking. Great leg workout, and cardio workout. Good family time too!!

Don't forget to work your back

When working out, don't forget to work on your back. There is something beautiful about a strong back.
If your in the gym, try lat pull down, pull ups, bent over rows, one arm dumbbell rows and push ups. Start light weight and try to do around 10-12 reps each and then repeat if you can.

Vacation tips

Our family will be heading out for spring break in a bit and to not get sucked into fast good places and junk food, momma has a plan!
Preparation being key.
We will be packing a cooler full of healthy snacks, like fruit, veggies and waters for the ride.
I am pre cooking some chicken, bean salads, and Lara bars for when we arrive. I have also put oats, flax meal and slivered almonds in containers for breakfast.
Got some yummy things at the store today to take with us.
Don't get caught in prepared when you go on vacation, or even a day trip. There is always time to pack a little cooler, and toss some healthy snacks into a bag! :)

Dinner option!

Turkey roll ups! Pound turkey cutlets thin SMS lay a piece of pruschuto on top, roll and sprinkle with sage. Cook in this oven for about 20 min, flipping half way. So yummy!! Got this idea from pinterest!

Work out and lunch...

Been trying to workout in the morning, as I have not been getting to bed until around midnight! Ugh! It's hard for me to get up and workout though, I feel better at night and more energized!
I did it the other day, and I will admit that I worked out at night also!! Ha! Ha!

I made kale soup for lunch! So good! Onions, kale, vegetable broth red pepper, chick peas and northern beans! Amazing!!!

Dinner!

Ground turkey, with onions, asparagus, broccoli and while wheat pasta! Seasoned with red pepper flakes, pepper and garlic. So yummy!

Super easy lunch!

Sometimes we get busy and need something quick but healthy. Give this a try! Some hummus, carrots, grapes. One triangle of laughing cow cheese and some whole wheat crackers!

Power your afternoon with a yummy salad!

I love salad and could seriously eat if every day all day! This is one I made the other day with grilled chicken and fruit! Topped with sunflower seeds and almonds! Get creative!

Nachos!

Extra lean ground beef, red onion, green pepper, frozen corn and fresh tomatoes. Seasoned with garlic, cumin, chili powder and smokey paprika. Top with a bit of fat free sour cream and chopped avocado! Yup!
I usually add black beans, but didn't have any in house.

Chicken nuggets

Kids love them, but getting them at McDonald's...yuck! Made these with Panko crumbs, wheat germ and Italian spices. Dipped boneless skinless chicken breast in egg whites and then in the Panko mix. Baked on 400 for about 20 min, flipping half way.

Kids lunch

I found these great containers at kroger a while back. They are wonderful for packing healthy lunch for the kids!

Kids and fitness

Trying to make sure your kids get enough physical activity is sometime tough. We as a family don't want to be out of the house running from activity to activity, but also want the kids to be active. It's tough to find that balance!
We let each of our kids pick one thing they want to do at a time. We also only do 39 min if tv during the week and that after homework and before dinner.
What's you strategy for making sure your kids stay active but not over worked?
