Prepping for a successful week.

I have started really thinking about ways to help our family have a successful, healthy eating week. Truth be told that if things are not convenient, easy or quick, we tend to look to something that IS. At least I do!
So I have started Not buying unhealthy items like packaged cookies and puddings for the kids. Choosing instead to make them on Sunday to last the week. Packed full of good things like honey, oats, flax seed and such. I know exactly what's in them and the kids love to help make the things they will be snacking on!
I have also started cutting up fruits and veggies on Sunday. Putting them in containers in the fridge and at eye view for everyone. The kids are free to snack on this stuff whenever they wish, and it's easy for me to create a quick lunch or something with, since half the work is already done.
Make it a little easier for you and your family to make good food choices, take an hour to prepare for your week on Sunday. It really does make a difference!

Fuel up before my run.

Made John and I some lunch before I head to the gym to run. Simple spinach salad with cut up veggies that I had pre cut up. ( I started doing this recently and it's so convenient) no dressing for me, but balsamic vinaigrette for John. Some grilled shrimp and a bit is cottage cheese.
Trying to get creative with lunch can seem complicated, but this only took about 10 min to make.

Update: ran 2.5 miles and did 5 min on the row machine. trying to get my pace back to what it was in the summer, running almost a min behind what I was doing! Ugh! Ave pace currently is 8:09 per mile

That was dumb...

So a few weeks ago, I broke down and joined the gym again. Just could not run consistently outside with the weather being so rainy this winter. Now of course I feel I have to go all the time because I have paid for it, and it's almost 70 degrees outside now!! Go figure.
I really do not enjoy being in the gum AT ALL. So, its going to be very painful today running on the treadmill and looking out the window at the beautiful day. I am going to run my little butt off at the gym, and then play outside with the kids this afternoon.
Also, Going to make what I hope to be a very yummy dinner tonight, will post later about that.

Meatless Monday

Hey everyone, today our family is having meatless Monday. If you haven't heard about it, you should check it out. I personally think its a neat thought. The idea being that if you choose to go meatless just one day a week, you may reduce your risk of preventable conditions like cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and so on. It can also help reduce our carbon footprint and save resources such as water and fossil fuel. I think it's great, and I love veggies and fruits, so WHY NOT?
Tonight we will be having some veggie pizza's on whole wheat pita's. I best get making the sauce!
What do you think about meatless Monday?

TIme for a change...

Been MIA from blogging for way to long. Life gets busy and I got lazy. I have though decided to get back into it, with a slight change of pace. The main focus of the new blog will be health. I have taken a huge interest in the over all heath of myself and the Family in the last year and have honestly, most likely annoyed the heck out of some people on Face book by my postings about workouts and food. (they can block me at any time though, so I don't feel too bad for them) But...The blog it shall be from now on. My hope is that the people who are interested in halthy eating and fitness will look at my blog and be inspired. Not because I know everything there is to know about these things, but because I am learning, trying and sometimes succeeding and making better choices for myself and the Family. John says he is being drug along for the ride, but we will have more on that later! ha! ha!
I will be posting recipes, workouts, things we are doing separately and as a Family in our journey to being fit and healthy. Every person in my Family has and needs different things in these categories and we will touch on that and the fact that everyone is different and has different goals. THAT'S OKAY!!
There WILL be grammar errors, misspelled words, crazy rants and funny stories. Hope you enjoy!

The Monion, By Jacob age 8 (10-13-09)

One day I was in Africa taking pictures. I saw lions, Monkeys and Donkeys, and even some Alligators. But then I felt a chill in my throat. I drank some water. That helped out with the chill. Two seconds later, Mom and me saw it. It was so cool!!I have decided to call in The Minion.

We took a picture of it and looked at it. It had a Monkey head, a lions main, a Monkey's tail and a Lion body. Well, I wonder if it eats meat. No, No, No, fruit. No wait, meat covered fruit. Yay, he must eat that. "Can we feed him some Mom?" "Ok" she said.

He must live in Africa because he is eating right next to a herd of Lions eating peacefully. Oh wait, now he is going close to us! "AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
Wait a second, he is NICE!!

"Well mom" I say, "can we keep him please?" Mom said "well, okay"
In three hours we were back home playing. "Hey, whats his name?"
