The awful dust bowl, By Katelyn Centers

It happened so quick, I thought it was a dream. You would have never thought it would happen today. Me, my brother and my Father were out in the field plowing the wheat, when all of a sudden great big black clouds rolled in. It looked as if we would never see the sun again! I felt a slight breeze on my arm, I turned to the horizon on my left and saw it, it was as big as the city of Chicago!!
It was the dust bowl! My Father grabbed my hand and yelled "RUN"! I started running toward the house, my brother right behind me. Right as we entered the front yard, the dust filled the air around me. My brother and I covered our eyes with our hands and ran into our house, and shut the front door!
My Mom was stuffing old towels into the window cracks and my little sister was sitting in a corner of the room, looking like she had seen a ghost! I went over to comfort her. My Brother and Father sat at the kitchen table. We Sat, listening, to the sound of the dust blowing past our run down little house for what seemed like hours.
Finally the storm stopped. My Family all looked relieved. That was the moment I started writting this entry in my diary. That was the day of the dust bowl!
